Where Can A High Risk Driver Find Cheap Car Insurance?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

While general insurers tend, for the most part, to steer clear of high risk drivers by quoting steep premiums, there are some companies that actively court the high risk driver. Not through philanthropic motives, it has to be said, though.

Generally, companies that specialise in high risk drivers are more open to offering policies to these drivers than most of the household names that regularly advertise on TV. The specialist companies tend to consider drivers on an individual basis rather than stereotype customers into handy compartments. This openness is not without a price tag. High risk drivers will be made to pay for past mistakes.

Among those considered high risk drivers are:
    • the under 25s
    • the over 70s
    • inexperienced drivers who have newly passed their driving test
    • convicted drink drivers who have recently regained their licence
    • drivers with speeding or serious motoring offence convictions
    • night shift workers and certain other occupations such as entertainers, GPs and mini cab drivers.
