How Do I Decide On A Good Title For My Book?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It can be difficult trying to decide on a title. Think about the most important part of your book. You could name your book after the main character, or perhaps an important object in your book. The Harry Potter novels have titles like this (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets etc.). Stephen King has named many of his books after characters from his books, such as 'Carrie' and 'Misery'. Perhaps you could name your book after an important place from your novel.

Write down all the possible titles that you have in mind and see which one works best. You could even discuss possible titles with a literary agent (if you have one). Some authors may find that they have the title of a book in their head before they have even written the actual book, and this may be what inspires them to do so.

If you have a lot of possibilities for your title then perhaps you could draw one out of a hat and stick with it.
