    Grain spelt is a relative of wheat. It is an ancient grain and can be used as a food grain. This requires the removal of the hulls. It is quiet popular on both sides of the Atlantic. It has a higher fiber content then wheat grain and is marketed as a healthy alternative to wheat flour. Many bakeries use it as a replacement for softer red winter wheat. It is used to make pastas and high fiber cereals.

    An alternate use is as a feed grain. Where it's nutritious value nearly equals that of oats. Grain spelt has the advantage of comprising a high protein content even after processing. The other nutrients include carbohydrates, niacin, iron, fiber, potassium and thiamin. It tastes light and nutty, and is easy to digest.
