(Although not documented through time) it is believed that the miniature pinscher is a cross breed from the short haired terrier, a dachshund and the italian greyhound. The 2 are not related. Barron's Miniature Pinscher Book will explain the whole geneology of the Min Pin. The German Pinscher originates from the "black and tan" coloration.
Get the book...it will explain so much more!

A Pin is a quite smaller than Dobie as well as more vicious with a freaky attitude which makes it much harder to control than to dobies.

There are 3 unique breeds of the Pinscher. The oldest bread is the German Pinscher, which was most likely the average sized breed used to generate the more famous smaller Miniature Pinscher and larger Doberman Pinscher. All 3 breeds have similar characteristics; the only difference is the size.

The oldest of the "Pinscher" breeds is the German Pinscher, then the Doberman. The Miniature Pinscher is in fact not a Pinscher at all, but a terrier breed. It is called a Min Pin because, of course, it looks just like the Doberman only much smaller.

The miniature pincher is actually about 100 years older than the doberman.
