    The great religious revolution during the 16th century is called Protestant Reformation and is often referred to as only Reformation. It was basically a movement in Europe than ran for more than a century and ended with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. It brought an end to the supremacy of the pope in Western Christian world  and also resulted in the establishment of the Protestant churches throughout Europe.
