    The original name of Vera Cruz is Vera Cruz Llave. It is the city of Gulf of Mexico. Vera Cruz is also a port of this area. The city is located in east-central Vera Cruz state. Vera Cruz state is a part of east central area of Mexico. Hernan Cortes discovered the La Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz in the year of 1519. It was founded as the first Mexican municipality. But Cortes rejected the site twice for made it the first Mexican Municipality because of its unhealthy circumstances. The present city of Vera Cruz was founded from early 1600s. It was the most important and popular link between colonial Mexico as well as Spain. Later the city was planned to be a port. Vera Cruz is the most 'Spanish' of Mexican territory.

    The territory of Vera Cruz was assaulted and confined repeatedly from its early history. Privateers first captured the city and later it was confined by French and United States. By the name of Ignacio de la Llave, it was named Vera Cruz Llave. Ignacio Liave was the governor of the state from the year of 1857 to1860. Both Mexican constitutions were proclaimed here in 1857 and 1912.

    Vera Cruz is the important seaports of Mexico. It is also the business centrer of gulf coast. According to the census report of the year of 2000, the population was estimated around 411,582.
