How Do You Know If You Should Attend Funeral?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

While society dictates that one should attend funerals as a mark of respect for the dead, ultimately it is a personal choice. It would also depend upon the relationship you shared with the deceased whilst he was alive.

If your relation was one of animosity it might be best to skip the funeral. In this case, if you do feel remorse and want to attend the funeral you should first keep in mind the effect this would have on the grieving family. If your attendance would mean upsetting the family of the deceased, then you have no business being there. A family grieving the loss of a loved one does not need any additional burden. It would be best to then pay your respects in private.

If you did share a loving relationship with the deceased but still do not want to attend the funeral for personal reasons such as feelings of overwhelming loss, you should not pressure yourself no matter what social tradition mandates.
