What Would You Think Of A Filter So You Can Decide Whether Or Not You Want To Accept Different Degrees Of Language?
Some of the words that are considered offensive are absolutely ridiculous, because they are harmless. We can't figure out what's wrong with them. Why can't there be a filter on the site so each member can decide what degree of language they will accept. It's done on other sites.
Hi everyone, I have just created a group for suggestions on this and any other matters concerning Blurtit that you would like to talk about. Anything you post here will be read and responded to by the Blurtit team. We do appreciate your input and are currently making lots of changes so any ideas are more than welcome. I have posted a thread about this issue and will address any problems / suggestions you may have. Thanks for your patience and I look forward to hearing your suggestions The Blurtit Suggestion Box
I know this has been an ongoing problem for a lot of regular Blurters (and some of the irregular ones, too) and it would be nice to have a clearer understanding of what is acceptable or not. I'm not familiar with how filters work, but if they allow people to choose for themselves what they do not wish to see, it sounds good to me. Zuhail, you make a good point. I think a lot of people have been contacting Blurtit about this for a while. I guess we just need to keep at it. You know what they say about the squeaky wheel: It gets to lick the lollypop! (Any explanation of why lollypop is offensive would be greatly appreciated.)
Yes robbier44, you are absolutely right. Blurtit is working hard to make this website the best. You would be seeing a lot of changes. I hope they are working on this filter but still we need to remind them by opening the contact us page of the blurtit web and send them this query.
Why doesn't Blurtit actually ask for suggestions on how this problem might be best addressed? I mean - actually solicit input from users. You already have one suggestion here on the table. Blurtit staff could at least read through suggestions and see if there was a viable solution that would work better.
It's clear enough things aren't currently working. WHY not ASK for suggestions from those who actually use the site and are familiar with language use? Blurtit could obviously always disqualify the ones that are not feasible, but at least you would be perceived as addressing the issue. At the very least, I would think doing so would foster more positive regard between users and Blurtit.
In fact, a community suggestion box on the site wouldn't be such a bad idea, would it? Users could add some perhaps valuable thoughts in a collective forum, and even comment on others' suggestions if they seem implausible....
I don't think it's a matter of not understanding why some controls are necessary to filter offensive language, but the current controls are frustrating and seem quite arbitrary. Last time I checked most people would not dream of the word " L O L L I P O P" being offensive in any way. Maybe on a porn site it would have different meaning (even then would require a stretch), but that's what I mean by arbitrary-- whatever list is being used seems not geared toward context here on Blurtit.
