    Volatile substances are primarily responsible for creating indoor chemical poisoning. These substances may be evaporated at room temperature leading to continuous air pollution inside the room. A chronic exposure to such types of substances may develop various disorders including lung infection, mental confusion, nausea, fatigue, depression and loss of memory.

    Following is the list of some of the common volatile substances along with the corresponding source that are found inside the room –

    • Trichloroethane, found in spray cans, spot removers
    • Formaldehyde, found in preservatives, glue, fabrics, insulation, plywood
    • Para-dichlorobenzene, found in air-fresheners
    • Toluene, found in solvents, cleansing fluids

    • Xylene, found in paints, finishing products
    • Carbon tetrachloride, found in paint remover
    • Acetone, found in nail polish remover
    • Chlorine, found in dishwasher detergents
    • Ammonia, found in antibacterial cleaning agents
    • Petroleum, found in floor waxes, dish soaps
