Luke, identified by early Christian leaders as a non-Jewish doctor, wrote the book of Luke.  He is trying to teach Theophilus about the widely misunderstood Christian religion. One theory is that Theophilus was a Roman official in charge of Paul's trial in Rome, & that Luke wrote these letters in Paul's defense.  Luke's story isn't just good news for Jews.  It's great news for everyone. An angel puts it this way:"I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior- yes, the Messiah, the Lord- has been born today in Bethlehem". (Luke 2:10-11)
