Rome is a city of great historical importance, and its most ancient tourist attractions include the ruins and the Pantheon. A visit to the Italian capital is incomplete without a visit to the Campo de'Fiori Market, a large public market where modern-day small shops and cafes rubs shoulders with centuries-old fish, meat, vegetable and fruit shops. It is a buzzing market by day and a popular nightspot in the evening. Giancolo Hill offers the best panoramic view of the city, but besides that it is the site of a famous amusement park for children and the cannon is fired everyday at noon from the hilltop. Parco Savelo is a walled public garden where people take a break to eat or rest in between their working hours. Ostia Antica is the site of ruins on an ancient port city called Ostia, where the common people went to public baths, theatres, the offices of merchants, temples and forums.

There is a famous art museum in Ostia Antica. Domus Aurea is a palace built by Nero who, as the famous story goes, played the fiddle while Rome burnt. Villa D'Este at Tivoli has beautiful gardens, fountains and geysers of water. The Church of Santa Maria, the Mouth of Truth, the Spanish Steps (12 flights of stairs which lead up to the Piazza Trinita dei Monti) and the Catacombs (Christian cemeteries) are the other places of historical interest in Rome.
