What Is Feminist Therapy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Feminist therapy came about when some enlightened women realized that a system of therapy needs to be initiated for women to cope in a largely patriarchal society. There are many therapy centers in the United Kingdom. Feminist therapy helps increase awareness levels among women about the environment in which they function. It attempts to make women more assertive. It teaches women not to accept something at face value just because it is considered to be socially appropriate. It helps women reconcile with many of their innate contradictions.

Feminist therapy enables women to recognize the subtle hints that they are being oppressed in the work place and at home. Anger management is a major part of feminist therapy. Independence is another recurring theme. Apart from this feminist therapy is also used in rape and physical battery cases. Most importantly it attempts to teach women to execute what they have learnt in their quest for becoming a better woman.
