How Do Monopolies Manage To Keep Prices Higher Than They Would In A Competitve Market?

Answer Question

In theory customers cant shop around for a better deal thus there is no pressure on the monopoly to lower their prices as there would be  in a competitive market.
Take Internet Service Providers imagine there was no choice now I pay under  ten pounds monthly for my Broadband, without the choice this price could easily be doubled if there was only one out there, instead of dozens to choose from.
