How Many Different Ethnic Groups Are There In Canada?

In terms of population, Canada ranks 36th in the world. According to the 2001 census, Canada's population was estimated to be approximately 30, 007, 094 and in the last five years, it has increased and is now estimated to be about 32, 623, 490.

Canada is one of the most ethically diverse countries of the world. According to the 2001 population census figures, there are 34 ethnic groups in Canada. Each of the 34 ethnic groups in Canada has a population of at least a hundred thousand. 39.4 per cent of Canada's population comprises people of Canadian ethnicity. The rest of Canada's population is made up of people whose ancestors were English (20.2 per cent), French (15.8 per cent), Scottish (14 per cent), Irish (12.9 per cent), German (9.3 per cent), Italian (4.3 per cent), Chinese (3.7 per cent) and Ukrainian (3.6 per cent).

People belonging to the First Nations are native Canadians, Indians or aboriginal people. The First Peoples, along with the Inuit and Metis peoples, are collectively known as Indigenous people and were the original inhabitants of Canada. They are a visible minority in the overall Canadian population, making up only 3.4 per cent of the total population of the country.
