South Africa is a middle income country that is considered to be an emerging one. There are various ways to determine the income or earning of a country. One of these measures is the Gross domestic product (GDP) which is also called the gross domestic income or GDI. It is basically the value of all final goods and services produced in a country. The GDP of South Africa was $300.4 billion in the year 2008 and the growth rate was 3.7 %. 3.4 % of the income came from the activities of the agricultural sector. Industrial activities resulted in the 31.3 % contribution to GDP while the largest share of 65.3% came from the service sector. Their GDP per capita or the GDP divided by the total population is $10,400.
