What Is A Laser And Where Can I Get One?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The laser is a child of the Sixties and without it we would be without a whole bunch of technology we now take for granted. Without the laser and its many applications, the 21st Century would be a very different place indeed.

The word laser is actually an acronynm of Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.  In fact, the laser is the strongest source of light ever created by humans. The beam that is emitted by a commercially available laser pen, for instance, is more than a million times brighter than a domestic light bulb.

Little do we know it but lasers play a part in our everyday life. They can be found in a host of household goods and consumer gadgets including CD and DVD players and computer printers. Lasers are also widely used in medical equipment, particularly scanning devices. They also turn up in a variety of other devices including laser pens, laser pointing devices and laser levels as used on building sites.
