An Expert system is a kind of software which is used to reproduce the performance of human experts in a specific problem area. It is considered as a subfield of artificial intelligence.
The history of Expert Systems dates back to the Mid 1960's. Edward Feigenbaum was one of the first people in the field of artificial intelligence. He worked on the first ever expert system, along with Bruce Buchanan and Lederberg in 1965 at Stanford University. It was a system which was developed to assist organic chemists in determining the molecular structure of chemical compounds.
With the success of this program many other developments in this field also happened. And now we have a number of expert systems to assist us in our lives.
