They were also touted as the "Big-Four" in the Grunge scene the other three bands in the Big Four included Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam. The original title of the Big Four was given to the four Heavy Metal bands namely; Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. Soundgarden was formed in the year 1984 by the drummer and Vocalist called 'Chris Cornell'.

In the early days of the band Chris Cornell used to play the drums and also sing. The band later got in Scott Sundquist to play the drums, this move would make Chris to completely concentrate on the vocals. Soundgarden broke up in the year 1997 due to internal differences between the band members.
