What Is The Recent Clash Between The United States And Russia All About?

The controversial plan of Washington D.C. to build a missile defence field in the continent of Europe has received an enormous extent of criticism from Russia, the factor being the major source of clash between the two countries.  According to Russia, the controversial missile project is an absolute threat to global security.  

In the hope of diminishing the intense opposition on behalf of Russia and to smooth the strain of US-Russia ties, United States Defence Secretary Robert Gates had flown all the way to Moscow to meet Russia's defence minister (who issued the above-mentioned comments) and Russia's president Vladimir Putin.  

Nevertheless there was rarely any progress on the very issue, Moscow's stance being stubbornly stiff on the matter.  According to sources, the Pentagon wants to station 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and also station a targeting radar in the Czech Republic, both of the countries being close enough to Russian territory.  According to sources, the missile defence issue has even threatened to divide Washington's traditional allies.
