Can you give the engine size or model and the type of fuel it runs on. So i can look it up. Some pictures show it in front of the engine and some show it next to the fire wall depending on the engine. Usually the the filter or filter box is connected to the engine by a plastic or steel air line(tube) 3-4 inches in across and is held closed by a clamp or clip.

i have one more question are we talking about the cabin air filter or the engine air filter for the cold air intake?
here is the best i can do besides telling you to get a manual for your exact car it will pay for itself in information. all the other sites i could find showed where people had put a after market kits on the car so they would not have to deal with the factory set up. this site shows the basic set up for a flat air filter.the only other picture i found showed the filter behind the motor on top next to the fire wall and was held in place by snap clips and screws. www.2carpros.com/how_to/change_air_filter.htm
