Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Oslo, the capital city of Norway is also considered to be its largest city in Norway. The centre of Oslo is located at the end of the Oslofjord from where the city sprawls out to the north and the south. It extends on both sides of the fjord thereby forming a U shaped structure of the city. The fjord is nearly divided by the Nesodden peninsula located opposite to Oslo.

The city area also extends up to the surrounding places of Akershus. There are a total of 40 islands within the confines of the city, the largest being Malmøya (0.56 km²). Some parts of Oslo are also enclosed by green hills and mountains.

Oslo is surrounded by 343 lakes, largest being the Maridalsvannet (3.91 km²) and the highest point in Oslo is Kirkeberget, which rises at 629 m above sea level. The population of the city is 544 073 (as of July 1, 2006).
