    Established in 1969, the Open University in the United Kingdom is a well-known open 'learning' university. A large amount of its students are based in the United Kingdom.

    But students can also pursue the courses in other parts of Europe, Africa and the Far East. The head office of the university is located at Walton Hall, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, but has branches in thirteen regions around the United Kingdom.

    The university offers various part-time courses and awards undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diplomas and certificates. Over 180, 000 students are currently enrolled in the Open University in the United Kingdom and another 25, 000 study abroad.

    It is the largest student academy in the United Kingdom in terms of the number of students and is one of the largest mega-universities in the world. The main aim of the university is to provide higher education to students, including people with special education needs.
