A cocker spaniel is the name of a particular breed of dog that is native to the United Kingdom. It is characterised by its long droopy ears and a silky coat, the colour of which varies from one dog to another.

It is originally a sporting dog that was taken from England to the United States in the 1880s. The development of English cocker spaniels may be traced back to the spaniels of Spain, from which the name was derived. Its height is somewhere around 16 in at the shoulder and it generally weighs somewhere around 30 lb. Its coat is of a moderate length, silky in texture and also a bit wavy. The tail of a cocker spaniel is usually docked. It was officially recognised by the Kennel Club of England as a different breed. Cockers were and still are trained to hunt small game, mainly woodcocks. It has also gained immense popularity as a house pet owing to its soft fur and adorable looks.
