               The American Red Cross is  also chartered  as the American National Red Cross. It is a humanitarian organisation. The objective of the American Red Cross is to provide emergency assistance, disaster relief and education to people who live in the United States of America. It is affiliated to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

               The American Red Cross Society is headquartered in the city of Washington, D.C. In the month of April in the year 2007, Mark W. Everson was appointed the chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Society.

               The person who is credited with the establishment of the American Red Cross (on May 21 in the year 1881) is Clara Barton. She was born in the year 1821 and died at the age of 91 in the year 1912.

      Clara Barton and a circle of acquaintances founded the American Red Cross in Washington, D.C. On May 21, 1881. Today they have over 1/2 million volunteers and 35 thousand employees.
