Is A Cheapest Car Insurance Quote Really The Best?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The answer to this one really depends on the proposer's personal circumstances and the type and value of vehicle they drive.

Getting the cheapest car insurance you can is often a matter of necessity due usually to being:

    1 skint
2 a high risk driver who has to pay sky high premiums
3 someone with an aversion to giving insurance companies money for keeping their fingers crossed.

Cheapest and best do not always sit well in the same sentence; determining best value is a subjective exercise. The danger of using cheapest as a benchmark is that it may well prove more expensive in the long run. For though a car insurance policy might be inexpensive, it's unlikely to include free courtesy cars and low excess payments.

Remember that the quoted price is cheap for a reason. Invariably that reason is not what the policy includes, it's what it leaves out. For it's only by stuffing cheap car insurance policies with a host of exclusions and qualifications that it's possible to offer them to the public. The devil is quite definitely in the detail when it comes to cheap car insurance.

Wombat's reasoning is very sound.  I also want to consider the service I have experienced in the past.  Did I have a difficult time when I made a claim?  How responsive were they?  My current insurance company has served me very well over the years.  I would be willing to pay a little more knowing what I get.  It pays to look into a company's track record, and to find out how their customers rate it.
