The term bast describes the kind of woody fibres that are made of very strong and flexible tissues. One of the best examples of bast can be hemp. The fibres from this plant are used to make burlap bags.
Farmers cut these plants and put them in a tank of water. After few days the woody parts of the plants get separated from the fibrous part with a little effort and being used for variety of things. The prime use of this fibre is to make burlap bags but in villages farmers use it for various things. They make ropes out of it with which they can pull together all the straws they have and also to tether their cattle and anything else which requires a rope.
