It had been broken means that the thing was broken in past. Every sentence in English is according to the situation and tense. If some one asks you about your glasses then you can say that It had broken or it had been broken for the last two days.

As you might have heard of grammar, so in English we have 16 tenses which certain tense takes place at certain time. For example, It had been broken. This sentence is in past perfect so normally the time is not know but if you say that it was broken then you must mention the time because ( it was broken ) is in past simple we will need to make it specific. For example, it was broken (this morning)
All in all, your sentence as past perfect tense is correct grammatically but not by the simple past
