Your dogs are not too old to learn a few new tricks. Remember, when training a dog to do anything, use the dogs name, before the new command. That is to get their attention so they will know you are talking to them. Shake is a pretty easy one to teach. Hold your hand out to shake, give the dog the order to 'shake' and then lift the paw to emulate shaking. Reward the dog with treats and affection when they get it right. With consistent training it should take only a few days.

If you want them to learn how to shake, wait until they are hungry, pick out a favorite treat, and do this. Ask your dog to sit and take his/her paw and say "shake", then give him a pat and a treat. Repeat this over an over and within a week, he will understand.

You could get some books from your library on dog training,or take them to training classes but if that may be too expensive the library will provide free info for you to borrow i also think sheer determination from you will be needed ,the saying you cant teach an old dog new tricks just came to my head )but I'm sure its not true good luck
