People stay away or disgrace people with AIDS because they think that they could get AIDS by just physical contact (like touching them), which is wrong.
AIDS could be acquired by having sexual contact with a person who has AIDS, blood transfusion (transferring blood form an HIV positive person to you), infected needles (like those in tattoo parlors if they don't sterilize it), and from mother to child (if the mother has AIDS while she is pregnant, the child will also be born and grow up with AIDS).
People also avoid them because they know that AIDS doesn't have a known cure yet so they don't want do have any risk and contract AIDS.
