Cephalexin is a type of antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections like those of pneumonia, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections (seems to be the most common). Cephalexin is commonly marketed under the trade name Keflex.

Cephalexin usually comes in the form of a pill, but I've also seen it administered in liquid form. Personally, I prefer penicillin, but I suppose cephalexin makes a useful alternative for people allergic to penicillin. Your doctor will know what's best for you.

Common side effects of cephalexin include: vomiting, diarrhoea, and mild skin rashes. Tell your doctor if these symptoms don't disappear or if they're severe. Women who take cephalexin may notice itching or burning in their vaginal area and should contact their doctor as soon as possible.
