Where Is Wiltshire In England?

Wiltshire formerly known as "Wiltonshire" or "Wiltscir" is an English County situated in the South-West part of England.  It covers a total area of 858,931 acres or 3,485 km2.  It borders the countries of Hampshire, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire.  It is roughly rectangular in shape and extends to about 54 miles from north to south and 34 miles from east to west. The administrative headquarter of Wiltshire is situated in Townbridge.

Most parts of the county consist of chalk hills and are also significant for its dairy farming.  The uplands of the county are used for sheep farming. The biggest town in Wiltshire is Swindon which is the main industrial centre of the county and was marked as the most prosperous town in UK by a recent government survey.

The climate here is slightly different from the other parts of England as it is slightly wetter and milder with the annual mean temperature being approximately 10 degree Celsius.  Wiltshire is famous for its prehistoric landmarks such as Salisbury Plain (markedly known for Stonehenge and cathedrals), Avebury stone circle and the villages of Wiltshire.
