I agree, tile is the best solution. Also in the laundry, there's isn't too much traffic as there is in a bathroom or kitchen. It'll be fine.

As long as the tile is set well and it is grouted properly the tile itself should be fine. If you are worried about the grout, (which should be fine also) there are products to waterproof it. (Although I think there are actual waterproof grouts. Tile is used in showers kitchens and bathrooms because of it's waterproof nature, durability and the style options that it offers. I have had ceramic tile in my laundry room for years and years. Tile is a great alternative to linoleum or carpet as it doesn't tear or stain, it is longer lasting and far more durable.

Yes ceramic tile can go anywhere you want it to go. Make sure that your sub-floor has one of the following. If going on a wood sub-floor make sure that you use tile backer board at least 1/4" thick. If going on cement floor make sure that the floor is cleaned and previous floor is taken off.

No problem at all. The grout is usually sealed, if your tile guy does it right. And tile is very durable. I've seen several tiled laundry rooms. Just pick a good tile color. It's hard to remove, so you'll have it there forever.
