Is It True That Flowing Water Can Be Used To Generate Electricity?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes it is true, but flowing water on its own will only create a small amount of electricity - actually pretty minimal amounts.  The effective way to create electricity from water, is to use it as a natural power source of power to turn turbines, which in turn are attached to generators and the electricity is captured in storage batteries - this is much like the process of wind turbines to capture the power of wind in creating electricity.

    I hope this helps

Storage batteries? Most generation facilities these days are connected to the power grid.

Yes, you are correct turbines indeed are connected to the main grid for commercial electrical units. I was thinking more along the lines of school projects, or home generators! Sorry if there is confusion in my answer.
