It is very important to connect your iPod to the personal computer in order to transfer the music. When you purchased your iPod, you must have got a USB cable along with it. Attach one end on the cable to the computer and attach the other end to the iPod. The computer will automatically detect the iPod and you will be able to transfer music from then on. This is the only way of connecting your iPod to the computer. In case you do not want to directly connect your iPod via the USB cord, you can buy an iPod Dock and connect it with your USB cord. After connecting, place the iPod on the dock and your iPod will get detected. Some people prefer using the dock as it keeps the iPod standing instead of lying down.
You will not be able to transfer just by copying and pasting. You will need to install iTunes software on your computer. iTunes software will be on the CD that you got along with the iPod. After installing, add all your music files to the library section of the iTunes and transfer all to your iPod.
