    The British group Dire Straits sang Romeo and Juliet. It was a hit single in their album Making Movies which was released in 1980. Dire Straits was formed in 1977.  It is an English rock band. Originally their manager was Ed Bicknell. Its original members were the Knopffler brothers David and Mark, Pick Withers and John Illsey. Later due to writing credits David Knopffler left the band. When the band dissolved in 1995 only two of the members of the original band remained namely Mark Knopffler and John Illsey. Mark Knopffler their lead guitarist also has a solo career.

    Altogether Mark Knopffler and Dire Straits have sold more than 118 millions albums worldwide.
    Douglas Adams and Quentin Tarantino are some of the famous fans of Dire Straits. Guy Fletcher who performed background vocals for the band and also played the keyboards is also associated with all Mark Knopffler's solo releases.
