Can Fish Get Constipated?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Yes, fish can get constipated. Make sure you feed the right type of foods for the fish that you have. If you have a constipated fish, then offer green foods to help "move" their system. Offer goldfish food since it has a lot of vegetable matter even if you do not have goldfish. If you have a constipated goldfish then offer blanched zucchini to help their bowels to move. Goldfish will often start swimming upside down if they are constipated. Most other fish species will just settle to the bottom of the tank and will not move around much. In this case, you may want to avoid feeding for 3 or 4 days and hope for the best. Some fish can recover, while others do not. Always feed in moderation to avoid this from happening.
