Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Daniel Ortega was a revolutionary and a political leader from Nicaragua. He aided the establishment of the Government of National Reconstruction following the removal of the Somoza power regime. He was President of Nicaragua from the year 1984 to 1990.

His political career started when he became a part of the Sandinista National liberation Front and arranged confrontation towards the dishonest dictatorial Somoza Family. He was sent to prison and afterwards removed to exile, wherein he furtively came back to Nicaragua and aided the building of opposition to Somoza.

The Sandinistas triumphed in 1979 and Ortega was made President in 1984.

The United States of America tried to strike at the foundation of his government and this in turn resulted in economic adversity and led to war. Ortega was no re-elected in any of the three consecutive elections that he stood for.
