How Was Debbie Macomber's First Novel Published?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Debbie Macomber has only completed her high school studies. She was a "Dyslexic" patient, which made it difficult for her to read and write. Despite this handicap, she was determined to become an author. Being a house wife and taking care of four small children, can be quite time consuming for a woman. However, Debbie fetched time and utilised her time in kitchen, cooking plots as well, as she typed fast and freely with the help of her type-writer. She completed her first few scripts with the help of this rented type writer. She continued writing for five years and sent many scripts for editing. Her scripts were rejected several times.

Finally she got a chance to do freelance writing for a magazine which made her life better. Later she attended a conference where her novel was to be publicly discussed by an editor of Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. The editor tore her work and told her to throw it away. However Macomber continued on her steadfast enthusiasm about making a presence in the world of literature. Macomber managed to collect $10 to send her work to "Silhouette Books", competitor of "Harlequin". They selected her novel Heart Song, which was the first romantic novel that "Publisher Weekly" reviewed.
