What Is The Difference Between DVD & VCD DISCS?

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A 'digital versatile disc' or a 'digital video disc' is commonly known as a DVD. It is of a particular type of format, namely optical disc storage media.it is possible to use this format for storage of data, as well as movies. The sound and video on a DVD is of a much higher quality than other formats.

The physical dimensions of a DVD and a CD (compact disc) are the same, although the encoding on a DVD is not the same format and the density is much higher.

DVDs need a DVD drive as well as an MPEG-2 decoder to transmit the data.

A VCD (Video CD) is the format generally used to store video on a CD. One can play VCDs in VCD players, some DVD players, and computers. A DVD format generates data of a much higher quality than a DVD, and takes up lesser space on the CD.
