    James Caan was born on 26th March 1940, in New York. His notable television roles include The Alfred Hitchcock Hour and The Untouchables.

    His first proper film role came in 1964, when he starred in 'Lady In A Cage'. Three years later, he starred alongside John Wayne in 'El Dorado'.

    After receiving praise for his roles in 'The Rain People' in 1969 and 'Brian's Song' in 1971, he starred in 'The Godfather' in 1972, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

    His other notable films include 'Dick Tracey', 'Alien Nation', 'Misery', 'Eraser', City of Ghosts', 'Elf'.

    He has been featured in many other programmes, such as 'The Simpsons' and 'Newsradio', both in which he played himself. He has also been mentioned in other popular television programmes such as 'Seinfeld' and 'The Critic' (an animated television series).

    He studied at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse', where he graduated.
