    The 2006 US open was won by Roger Federer and Kim Clisjters. The 2006 US Open commenced on the 28th of August 2006 and closed on the 10th of September 2006.

    The US open is also known as the United States Open. It is titled as the fourth and the last of Grand Slams. The tournament takes place every year from the month of August to September; it lasts for a duration of two weeks. The tournament comprises of five different championships; Men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. It also includes a category for senior, junior and wheelchair players.

    The US open turned 'Open' in the year 1968. In this year all the five mentioned categories were merged in to one and the name US open was given. In the year 1968 around 96 men and 63 women participated in the tournament.
