Aztecs would seem to have believed in a number of deitiesand indeed believed in a pantheon of Gods. However, they seemed, according to their artefacts to be quite open about adopting new gods and worshipping them. Usually the 'new' gods were those of mesoamerican peoples which they had conquered.
They adopted a pre -Aztec deity called Xipe-Totec who was the god of regeneration.
In addition they also adopted Quetzalcoatl who was known as the plumed serpent god.
The main god of the Aztecs was Huitzilopochtli who was a bloodthirsty god, known as the sun god, since the Aztecs recognised the power of the sun.
The Aztecs were a sophisticated and quite religious people and they practised routine human sacrifices, in order to appease the gods, particularly Huitzilopochtli who was thought to be particularly pleased when a human was sacrificed.
Whilst this may seem gruesome today it is a good indication of just how deeply religious the Aztecs were.

Every single culture believed and still believes in some kind of Deity.
The Aztecs worshiped about 1,000 gods! But they worshiped the sun god the most. Religion played a great part in Aztec life.

The Aztecs were VERY religious...
They believe the " GODS " controlled everything in there daily lives.
They had a God for everything.
But the sun god was believed to influence them the most.
