Mouth ulcers are a pain, full stop. There is indeed a bit of a gathering of opinions about them on this site www.mouthulcers.org which goes to show how incredibly annoying they are.

Whilst I don't condone applying some of the following treatments as suggested by the site, "Vegemite applied directly" or "squeezing it then rubbing with salt" or "chewing cloves", I do think you need to work out why you are getting ulcers in the first place.

A dab of Bonjela and a salt rinse can have a pain-reducing and healing effect but there is no miracle cure for ulcers just yet (aside from chopping your head off).

Some common causes of ulcers include stress, emotional trauma, infection from viruses, injury or fatigue. The ulcers can also be caused by food allergies, for example some acidic foods like oranges and tomatoes can bring on ulcers. You can also give yourself an ulcer if you have had minor physical injury within the mouth, for example knocking the wall of the mouth with a toothbrush.

Therefore as an ulcer sufferer you should take steps to change whatever might be causing the ulcers for you.

I suffered from mouth ulcers badly for quite some time and they used to last for ages. I tried everything, including many of the odd treatments suggested on mouthulcers.org! Eventually I came across Aloclair mouthwash which you can just swill round your mouth. It sticks to the ulcer and stops the pain - I also found it helps heal them quicker too.

There's nothing available that cure mouth ulcers but I've certainly found Aloclair to be the next best thing.
