Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The GNU Interpreter for Java (GIJ) basically is a Java bytecode interpreter mainly for the Java programming language. It is a section of the free software GNU Compiler for Java. GCJ is the compiler matching portion to GIJ.

The GNU Compiler for JAVA basically is a free software compiler primarily for the Java programming language which is a division of the GNU Compiler Collection. It can bring together class files comprising of bytecode or the whole JARs encloses such files into machine codes.

A lot of effort has been put in getting the GNU Classpath to maintain Java's graphical APIs: which are AWT and Swing. Full support for together AWT and Swing is about to be accomplished, and it is possible that no longer the runtime provided by Sun Microsystems will be required for AWT/Swing applications.
