    Peter Kay is an English actor, comedian and writer.

    He was born on the 2nd of June 1973 in Bolton, Lancashire which is located in the north-east of England.

    Kay had various different jobs after leaving full-time education. This included working as a cinema usher. It was during his time here, that Kay started to work on some stand-up comedy material. His family eventually persuaded him to pursue his dream of becoming a performer and he entered a Channel 4 competition entitled 'So You Think You're Funny?' which he won in 1997.

    After this triumph he performed at the Edinburgh Festival the following year. Kay's popularity increased and soon he was appearing as a guest on 'Parkinson' and 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross'.

    Peter Kay started to write scripts for his creation 'Phoenix Nights', based on a working men's club set in the north of England. This aired in 2001 and earned Kay many awards.

    Since then Kay has continued with his stand-up comedy tour and has also written and starred in 'Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere'.
