Depends what you mean by better. Barristers are more highly trained (and therefore MUCH more expensive) and usually represent people in major court cases. Solicitors are required at first to provide the 'brief' (hence their nickname) for barristers and will usually suffice for day to day legal problems. Even so, they are not cheap !
