The First King of Shannara is the name of the prequel to The Sword of Shannara, which is the first of the three books in The Original Shannara Trilogy, which was written by high fantasy writer Terry Brooks. It was published by Del Rey Books, New York, on the nineteenth day of the month of March in the year 1996.
It is set during the Second War of the Races. It features a number of characters from the series and their ancestors. The consequences of the First War of the Races are not acceptable to the Druids at Paranor. They have stopped studying the arcane arts as a result of the war and have turned to the Old World sciences. Brona, the new Warlock Lord, has however declared another war (the second) on the Races.
