What Is The Geographic Coordinates?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Usually, the "geographic coordinates" of a location are its latitude and longitude, perhaps together with its elevation. Latitude is expressed as an angle north or south of the equator. The equator is at 0 degrees, and the poles are at 90 degrees (1/4 of the way around the sphere). Longitude is expressed as an angle east or west of the Prime Meridian. These days, most of us use the longitude line through the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, in east London, United Kingdom, as the 0 degree line. Longitude can range from 0 degrees to 180 degrees.

For some military, electric or other utility, highway, or other applications, a different system of locating places on Earth may be used.
