What Is Photoelectric Emission?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Emission of electrons from a metallic surface when light of certain frequency is incident on it is called photoelectric emission. It is also known as photoelectric effect. In other words, the process of removal of electrons from the surface of metal when ultraviolet light falls on it is called photoelectric emission. The emission of electrons does not depend on the intensity of the light but it depends on the frequency of incident light. The photoelectric current or number of photo electrons increases with increase in intensity of light. The minimum energy required to cause photoelectric emission is known as threshold energy and its value is different for different metals.
