1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world and is situated towards the Eastern Himalayas on the Nepal China border. The south face of Mount Everest is accessible from Nepal whereas the north face is accessible from the Tibetan province of China. Namchebazar on the Nepalese side is the most prominent village en route Everest whereas the same from the Chinese side is Rongbuk.

The route to the base camp is more arduous on the Nepalese side and so is the ascent to the top. Visitors however flock in large numbers on the Nepalese side due to large scale promotion of tourism in Nepal. Mount Everest is flocked by other high altitude peaks, the most notable being Lhotse and Makalu. The first successful attempt on Mount Everest was on 29 May 1953 by Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and New Zealander Edmund Hillary.
